Zaven brings over 25 years of Neuroscience research to the DDF.
Zaven joined the DDF team in June 2018 as a project lead focused on company creation and became a venture partner in January 2020.
From June 2013 to June 2018, Zaven was a Director of Neuroscience Research at Amgen in Cambridge, MA. In this role, he managed several teams and programs tasked with identifying novel therapeutics for neuropathic pain and neurodegenerative disorders, with a focus on ALS and Parkinson’s Disease. Zaven also chaired the Amgen Massachusetts External Outreach committee, which was charged with increasing the visibility of Amgen, and leveraging the local health sciences ecosystem to enhance innovation. Prior to working in industry, Zaven was a faculty member at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he directed a basic science research group focused on the molecular mechanisms that control axon guidance and dendrite branching in the developing central nervous system.
Zaven obtained a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and a M.A. in Physics from Boston University, he then earned a Ph.D. in Biophysics from The Johns Hopkins University and carried out Postdoctoral Research at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
