London (January 27, 2017) — Kate Bingham was awarded the BioIndustry Association (BIA) Lifetime Achievement Award at the BIA’s annual Gala Dinner last night. Over 700 life science professionals gathered at The Brewery in London for the premier bioscience networking event of the year, including Lord Prior of Brampton, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Jane Osbourn, BIA Chairman, said: “Kate has made an enormous contribution to the UK biotech sector during her career; through her work at SV Life Sciences, to her active role in setting up the Dementia Discovery Fund. In addition to all of this, she is leading the way in championing diversity for the sector across the globe.”
On receiving the award, Kate Bingham commented: “This award reflects the enormous skill, entrepreneurialism and dedication of the scientists and medical science innovators in the UK. I have been privileged to work in this brilliant and inspiring community and look forward to helping establish the UK permanently as the unequivocal biotech leader in Europe.”

Kate Bingham joined SVLS in 1991 and currently serves or has served on the boards of companies in the UK, US, Ireland, Sweden and Germany. She has been responsible for past investments in Affinium, Alantos, Atopix, Auxilium, Convergence, ESBATech, EUSA, Hexagen, Kinetix, KuDOS, Leukosite, MedNova, Micromet, Oncoethix, PowderMed, and RespiVert and current investments including Autifony, Bicycle, Calchan, ErVaxx, Kalvista, Karus, Pulmocide, Sitryx, TopiVert and VHSquared. Kate played an active role in setting up the new Dementia Discovery Fund (DDF) and serves on the DDF Investment Committee as well as the Investment Committees for all SV’s funds. Prior to joining SVLS, Kate worked in business development for Vertex Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company in Cambridge, MA and at Monitor Company, a strategy consulting firm. Kate has a first class degree in Biochemistry from Oxford University and graduated from Harvard Business School with an MBA (Baker Scholar).
